This animation includes a timeline illlustrating the gradual effects of obesity on the body, including diabetes, atherosclerosis, and heart attack. This animation includes audio narration. Over time, obesity can increase levels of glucose and triglycerides in the blood stream. The pancreas tries to compensate for this increase by increasing insulin output. As obesity increases, the pancreas can no longer keep up with adequate insulin production. At this point, the person can develop components of syndrome X, or metabolic syndrome: diabetes, high blood pressure, atherosclerosis, stroke, or heart attack.
