The video of Chapter 5 begins with a trial reenactment in which the prosecution calls its' first witness, Dr. Ken Miller. There is an effort to present to the court the concept of evolution and the evidence that supports it. The video then transitions to interviews in which the ideas of evolution and intelligent design are presented. One expert states that transitional fossils could support evolution; such as a fossil that has characteristics between primitive fish and tetrapods. The video then shows an expedition to the Canadian arctic in which scientists discover a fossil with scales and fins like a primitive fish, but with a flat head and bone structure similar to amphibians or reptiles. The fossil is named Tiktaalik by the scientists.
